Privacy Policy
How ICANCROCHET collects, uses and protects your personal information — and the rights you have over it.
Last updated: 9 September 2026
ICANCROCHET LTD (“ICANCROCHET”, “I”, “we”, “us”) runs this website and sells digital crochet patterns through it (the “Services”). This policy explains what personal information I collect when you visit the site, buy a pattern or write to me, what I do with it, and what you can ask me to do about it.
Who is responsible for your data
ICANCROCHET LTD is the data controller for the information described here. You can reach me at support@icancrochet.com or by post at Icancrochet LTD, 71–75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom.
The information I collect
- Contact details — your name, e-mail address and, where your payment provider passes it to me, your billing country.
- Order information — what you bought, when, the amount paid, the order number and the payment method used. I never see or store your full card number.
- Download records — which pattern files you downloaded, when, from which IP address and browser. I keep this as proof of delivery, which is what lets me defend a chargeback if one is raised.
- Messages — anything you send me through the contact form, a review, or by e-mail.
- Reviews — the name, rating, text and any photos you choose to submit. These are published on the site once I have read them.
- Technical information — your IP address, browser and device type, and how you move around the site. Some of this comes from cookies.
Where it comes from
- Directly from you, when you buy, write to me, leave a review or ask for your downloads again.
- Automatically from your device as you use the site.
- From the companies that process payments for me, who confirm a payment and pass on the billing details attached to it.
Why I use it, and the legal basis
- To give you what you bought — taking payment, sending your patterns, keeping your download links working, answering support questions. Legal basis: performance of our contract.
- To keep the shop safe — spotting fraud, keeping proof that a file was delivered, defending chargebacks, protecting my patterns from being copied and resold. Legal basis: my legitimate interests in running a business that is not defrauded.
- To answer you — replying to e-mails, form messages and reviews. Legal basis: our contract, or my legitimate interest in being a responsive shop.
- To publish your review — only if you submitted one. Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by asking me to remove it.
- Marketing and analytics — understanding which patterns people like, and showing ads. Legal basis: your consent, given through the cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time using the “Cookie choices” button at the bottom of the page.
- Legal duties — keeping tax and accounting records, and responding to lawful requests. Legal basis: legal obligation.
Who I share it with
I do not sell your personal information. I share only what is needed, with companies that process it on my behalf:
- Hostinger — hosting for this website and its database.
- Stripe — card, Apple Pay and Google Pay payments. Stripe receives your card details directly; they never pass through this website.
- PayPal — if you choose to pay with PayPal.
- My e-mail delivery provider — to send your order confirmation, download links and my replies.
- Analytics and advertising providers — only if you accepted those cookies.
- Professional advisers and authorities — my accountant, and anyone I am legally required to tell.
Each of these companies is bound by contract to use your information only for the service it provides to me.
Sending data outside the UK and EEA
Some of these providers are based in, or store data in, countries outside the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area. Where that happens I rely on an adequacy decision, or on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, so your information keeps an equivalent level of protection.
How long I keep it
- Order and payment records — six years after the order, because tax law requires it.
- Download logs — two years, which comfortably covers the window in which a chargeback can be raised.
- Messages — up to two years, so I have the history if you write again.
- Published reviews — until you ask me to remove yours.
- Cookie choices — up to twelve months, then I ask again.
Cookies
Essential cookies keep your cart, your checkout session and your security tokens working; the site cannot function without them, so they are always on. Analytics and advertising cookies are only set after you accept them in the banner. You can change your mind at any time with the “Cookie choices” button at the bottom-left of any page, or by clearing cookies in your browser.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can write to me and ask for any of the following. If you are in the UK or the EEA these are rights in law:
- Access — a copy of the personal information I hold about you.
- Correction — to have anything inaccurate fixed.
- Deletion — to have your information erased, where I am not required to keep it.
- Portability — a machine-readable copy, or for me to send it to someone else.
- Objection and restriction — to ask me to stop or limit certain uses.
- Withdraw consent — at any time, without affecting anything done before you withdrew it.
- Opt out of marketing — every marketing e-mail has an unsubscribe link, and you can also just ask me.
Write to support@icancrochet.com and I will answer within one month. I may need to check who you are first. You will never be treated differently for exercising a right.
Complaints
If you think I have handled your information badly, please tell me first — I would much rather fix it. You also have the right to complain to a regulator: in the United Kingdom that is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk), and in the EEA it is the data protection authority for the country you live in.
Children
This shop is not aimed at children and I do not knowingly collect information about anyone under 16. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has sent me their details, write to me and I will delete them.
Security
The site runs over an encrypted connection, pattern files sit outside the public web root and can only be reached through a signed, expiring link, and card details are handled entirely by Stripe and PayPal. No system is perfect, so please do not send me anything highly sensitive by e-mail.
Changes
If I change this policy I will update the date at the top and, where the change matters, tell you on the site.
